After a year of using the Logitech G G923 Racing Wheel, Pedals, and Driving Force Shifter, it has transformed my experience and immersion in racing/driving games. I play a lot of F1 and Euro Truck Simulator 2. Before this setup, I was using an Xbox controller, but the switch to a full racing setup had made my gameplay so much more engaging.

Steering Wheel

The G923 racing wheel stands out with its genuine leather finish, which not only looks premium but also feels great during long gaming sessions. The quality mix of plastic and metal components gives it a solid, durable feel, with nothing about it coming across as flimsy or cheap. The metal shift paddles are particularly good. They deliver a satisfying click, adding a layer of tactile feedback that makes gear changes feel authentic, especially in F1 racing.

The button layout is well spaced, plentiful and easy to press without having to look down. The wheel size itself is well suited for a range of games, from intense racing to more relaxed simulation experiences like Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Pedals

The pedals that come with the G923 are fantastic overall. They have a metal construction with a plastic base. They are very weighty and stable. For those, like myself, who game on carpet, the retractable carpet gripper is fantastic. It locks the pedals firmly in place on the carpet, preventing that frustrating slipping during intense moments of gameplay. The accelerator and clutch pedals operate smoothly. The brake pedal is a little stiff for my liking. This may add to the realism for some players, I find it too rigid, especially for more casual setups like mine. The ability to adjust the brake pressure in GHub would have been a nice feature. Perhaps this is reserved to more expensive pedal sets. As I game on an wheeled office chair, this stiffness can cause the chair to roll back when braking at maximum force. To counter this, I usually place a heavy object behind my chair to prevent it from moving backwards, but it’s not an ideal solution.

Shifter

The Driving Force Shifter adds an extra layer of immersion to driving games. The six-speed gearbox, plus reverse (achieved by pushing down on the gear stick), works very well. Shifting feels responsive, realistic and the movements between gears are smooth. It’s USB powered and connects easily under the wheel, the same as the pedals.

Setup and Clamping Mechanism

The clamping system for both the wheel and the shifter is incredibly easy to use. Even if you’re switching between different desk setups, the clamps attach securely without damaging your desk. The cables are a good length, making it adaptable to different setup layouts, whether you’re working with a dedicated racing setup or a temporary desk arrangement like mine.

Force Feedback and Performance

The G923 features TrueForce force feedback technology, which adds a new level of immersion, especially in more simulation heavy games. The vibration and resistance generated by the wheel translate the feel of the road and track into your hands. You can feel the grip slipping as you corner too fast or the subtle bumps of the road in Euro Truck Simulator 2, which adds to the realism. TrueForce requires specific game support to function fully, and not all titles utilize its potential to the fullest.

Room for Improvement

As great as this set is, there are a few areas where Logitech could improve:

  • Brake Pedal Stiffness: The brake pedal requires too much force, which can be problematic for casual setups like mine, where I use an office chair. Adjustable brake pressure would have been a fantastic feature.
  • TrueForce Compatibility: TrueForce is a great addition to the wheel, but its compatibility with games is limited. I hope more titles will support this feature in the future.

Final Verdict

The Logitech G923 Racing Wheel, Pedals, and Driving Force Shifter set provides an immersive and engaging racing experience. Its high quality build, force feedback, and user friendly setup make it an excellent choice for both casual and more dedicated players. It’s not a cheap set, but it’s really good value for money considering the quality and features. Overall, it’s a fantastic way to take your gaming immersion to the next level, especially if you’re looking to move away from a standard controller like I was.
