I’ve had the Razer Basilisk V3 for over two years now. For the first 6 months I impressed with its features, design and comfort but the experience since then hasn’t been very good at all.
Durability Issues
The primary problem I’ve encountered is with the middle scroll wheel click button, which has become unresponsive on two different units, both of which were replaced under warranty in the last two years. Now that the mouse is out of warranty, I don’t expect it to last more than another six months. This recurring issue is concerning, especially as the mouse is supposed to feature highly durable switches rated for 70 million clicks. I started to wonder if I was the problem, but from what I’ve found online, there are many reports of this issue.
Poor Customer Service
Razer’s customer service was another low point for me. The last time I had to replace the mouse, I spent over two hours going through a tedious troubleshooting process with their live chat support. To top it off, I had to drive five miles to drop the faulty unit at a courier store, which was inconvenient. They wasn’t able to provide me with a Royal Mail label to drop it off at a Post Office or arrange collection from my home, which made the whole experience more frustrating. I had to waste my time, drive five miles (which costs money), pay for parking (more money) because of a poor product with repeating issues. For a well known and respected brand, the service left much to be desired.
The Good Points
On the positive side, the Basilisk V3 is comfortable to use and has a ergonomic design. The customisable RGB lighting is good. The Razer Synapse software offers a lot of customisation options, allowing you to remap buttons, set up macros, and store multiple profiles for different games or tasks.
The HyperScroll Tilt Wheel is a unique feature, offering a free spinning mode for fast scrolling through long documents. However, it’s not very useful for gaming, and I found that the automatic switch between modes to be annoying during normal use, so I disabled the automatic switching.
Conclusion
While the Razer Basilisk V3 has some impressive features, a nice design and is comfortable to use, its durability issues and poor customer service make it hard to recommend. If you’re looking for a reliable gaming mouse that will last, I’d suggest looking elsewhere. Based on my experience with multiple units, I’d avoid this mouse altogether.
