I recently upgraded to a cordless lawn mower after moving into a new home with front and rear lawns. I was looking to ditch the mains cable. I opted for the Ryobi One+ system since I already own several Ryobi tools and compatible batteries. The One+ systems versatility is a big plus. It supports over 200 tools including drills, trimmers, leaf blowers and many more. As I already own around 10 Ryobi One+ tools and have multiple batteries, I figured I would give this mower a try.

The design of the mower is attractive, featuring the typical Ryobi green and black colour scheme. It’s lightweight, easy to carry with its built-in handle, and offers a 33cm cutting width which is adequate for standard lawns. The cutting height is adjustable between 25 and 65mm with five settings controlled by a lever at the front. An insert is included for mulching, which I found works very well.

However, the mower’s performance is just average at best and an absolute pain when the grass isn’t bone dry. Mildly damp conditions from morning dew cause the blades to clog, leading to a significant drop in performance, something I didn’t face with my old budget corded mower. After two short summer seasons of use, there are some signs of wear. The rubber grip is splitting and some stickers are peeling off. These are minor cosmetic issues however the early wear on the grip is disappointing as it will likely continue to get worse.

The biggest issue is battery life. Even with a brand new 5AH genuine Ryobi battery, I only get about 15-20 minutes of mowing, and the power noticeably dips in the last few minutes as the battery drains. Thankfully, having multiple batteries (four 5AH and two 1.5AH) means I can finish both my lawns by swapping them out, but it’s not ideal.

In conclusion, while the Ryobi cordless lawn mower is highly portable and convenient for quick sessions, its average performance and poor battery life are drawbacks. I still use this mower weekly in the due to its cordless convenience however I would not purchase it again and wouldn’t recommend it.
