As someone who consumes a significant amount of fizzy drinks I’ve used various SodaStream models over the years. With the rise of other brands creating their own carbonators, I recently transitioned to the Sage InFizz Fusion. Note: This product is also sold under the Breville brand in some countries.

Design & Build

The first impression of the InFizz Fusion is its premium design and build quality. Unlike the plastic construction of previous SodaStream models I’ve owned, the InFizz Fusion is made from metal with a sleek matte black finish and a chrome handle. It looks fantastic on the kitchen countertop. It’s solid, elegant, and worthy of being on display rather than tucked away in a cupboard.

Compatibility

The InFizz Fusion uses the same standard threaded CO₂ cylinders as SodaStream, Drinkmate, Arkee, and other popular systems. That means no need to hunt down proprietary gas bottles (like Sodastream’s new models). I already had 10 cylinders from my old SodaStream models that I have continued to refill and use with the Infizz Fusion.

FusionCap

What really separates the InFizz Fusion from the competition? The FusionCap. This clever cap allows you to carbonate more than just water. You can safely fizz drinks after you’ve added syrup, juice, or even re-carbonate a flat shop bought cola sitting in the fridge.

If you’ve ever tried adding syrup to carbonated water with a SodaStream, you’ll know how much it fizzes over and instantly loses carbonation. Worse still, if you try to carbonate anything but water with a SodaStream, it will explode all over the kitchen.

The InFizz Fusion handles all of that effortlessly. Being able to fizz drinks that already contain sugar or flavouring or to revive shop bought fizzy drinks that are flat is a great.

Everyday Benefits

Since switching, I’ve noticed some big wins:

  • Money saved – I’m no longer buying multiple 2L bottles of fizzy drinks every week.

  • Less plastic waste – Fewer bottles means a lower environmental impact.

  • More space in the fridge – No more bulky plastic bottles taking up shelf space.

  • More versatility – Carbonate what you want, how you want.

Why Choose InFizz Fusion Over SodaStream?

If you’re deciding between the InFizz Fusion and a traditional SodaStream, here are the key reasons to go with Sage:

  • Looks & Build Quality: The InFizz Fusion looks and feels premium. Metal body, matte black finish, and chrome accents — it’s built to last and looks fantastic on the kitchen countertop.

  • FusionCap: This is the biggest differentiator. You can safely fizz and re-fizz actual drinks, not just water — whether that’s pre-mixed soda, juice blends, or cocktails. SodaStream strictly warns against this.

  • Less Waste & More Fizz: Fizzing plain water and then adding syrup (the only method allowed by SodaStream) causes instant fizz loss and messy overflows. The InFizz Fusion solves that by letting you carbonate the complete drink in one go, retaining more bubbles and keeping your countertop clean.

Gas Escaping Issues

Unfortunately, my experience with the InFizz Fusion took a turn after a couple of months. I used it daily without issue for around two months before I noticed my CO₂ cylinders were running out much faster than usual. Upon closer inspection, I discovered gas was escaping between the nozzle and the FusionCap during use.

I contacted Sage support, and after a few emails back and forth, I returned it for a replacement unit. Initially, the replacement worked perfectly, and I thought it was just a faulty unit with good support, but within two weeks the same issue reappeared. This time, I noticed it sooner, having already experienced the fault. When pressing down the handle to inject gas, I could hear and feel gas rushing out between the bottle and the FusionCap. Occasionally, tiny specks of ice would shoot out, and after removing the bottle, I’d find ice buildup around the nozzle, which is a clear sign of gas escaping.

I contacted Sage again, and their support team acknowledged the issue during a video call. However, they seemed reluctant to take it further. Despite admitting both units had the same fault, they didn’t acknowledge this as a known issue or offer another replacement. Instead, they advised me to contact the original retailer for a refund.

To my surprise, Amazon accepted the return without issue, even though I had ordered the product over 6 months ago. That level of customer service is worth noting and appreciating.

Final Thoughts

The Sage InFizz Fusion is a beautifully designed and smartly engineered device, in theory. Its ability to carbonate a wide range of drinks and its premium look make it a compelling choice over traditional SodaStream models.

However, after experiencing the same gas leakage issue with two different units in a short space of time, I’ve lost trust in the product. While it’s possible I was unlucky twice, I find that unlikely. Without a permanent fix or clearer acknowledgement from Sage, I can’t recommend the InFizz Fusion, despite its great potential.
